Memo

SCHIP Reauthorization: Vetoing Children’s Health

Author: Rob Keast
In The Middle Class Program

Abstract

This memo supports the reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) for low-income children and urges advocates of this program to work against a possible veto threat.

Description

The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) is one of the most effective and popular federal programs created in recent years. Yet its continued existence is in jeopardy, thanks to threat of a potential veto of reauthorization legislation. This memo provides a brief summary of SCHIP’s achievements in the 10 years since its passage and urges the reauthorization of this important program despite the veto threat.
